Michael's MIT group weekend in Heber
8:00 am - Roots Tech
I was sick with diarrhea yesterday and last night. I had prayer and Debbie and I had breakfast. I had a half bowl of cream of chicken soup for breakfast. Debbie and I had prayer before leaving for Roots Tech. I dropped Debbie off in front of the Salt Palace. I parked the car and came back to the sessions. Later I went to the exhibit hall and visited some of the booths. I attended the General Session at 11:00 am with Debbie. Kristin Chenoweth, Emmy® and Tony® Award-winning actress and singer told her personal family story with RootsTech's global audience and showcased her renowned voice performing a curated selection of songs. Afterward, we visited some of the booths in the exhibit hall. I met Nate Mason, founder of My Ancestor.AI (801-636-5530,; Nate@MyAncestor.ai. They t ) ake a digital book and summarise it into one chapter, or one page, or one paragraph, or one sentence. Note: Another exhibitor was Anku Islam with Lifewood Data Technology from Bangladesh. https://www.lifewood.com/bg-lifewood-10th-anniversary-celebration
(anku@lifewood.com; phone 880-1713-104208). He was interested in talking to Matthew if he ever need help with programers. The company started about 18 years ago by Ronald Cheung (CEO) and his brother Clarence Cheung. They started with 6 employees. The business converts foreign printed languages into English. Even if the language is in cursive they convert into digital. I was impressed. Converting all my journals in cursive from 1978 to when I put them in a data format in Blogger and summarising them is something that had my attention.
The company that use AI to summarize is My Ancestor. The founder is Nate Mason in Hollinston, Main, phone 801-636-5530; Nate@MyAncestor.ai; www.MyAncestor.ai. They can summarize a large book with hundreds of pages into one chapter, or into one paragraph.
We stopped on our way to the food court and met Jimmer and Whitney Fredette. Whitney and Jimmer knew Alyssa and Dalin McEwin in college. Jimmer at BYU played college basketball, to his time in the NBA, and international career in Shanghai. Now, at 34 years old, Jimmer is chasing a new dream - the Paris 2024 Olympics. He is from Glens Falls, NY, and was part of the U.S. men’s team that took the silver at the 2023 FIBA 3x3 World Cup this summer in Vienna, Austria. Madeline's cheer team placed 4th in the National Cheer Competition today. The last session I attended today at Roots Tech was, "Binding Hearts: Three Ways to Connect Your Descendants to Their Ancestors" by Wally Goddard, Professor of Family Life. As a child, ".... If you want a happier family, create, refine, and retell the stories of your family's positive moments and your ability to bounce back from the difficult ones. That act alone may increase the odds that your family will thrive for many generations to come." Bruce Fuller, The Stories That Bind Us. He and his wife only decorate for the Christmas Holiday. The other eleven months they celebrate the life of an ancestor. Around their home, they hand pictures and lay things out that have been preserved and handed down from their ancestors. He and his wife do a book each year. about their ancestors and when they run out of ancestors, they plan to start one each year then or their children and grandchildren. I could never imagine my grandfather ever being young. That is why children need to see pictures and hear stories of their grandparents. One of the books he wrote is "Ruthie". It is a true story about a little girl and her grandfather. How he spent time with her almost daily. She would stand at the window and look for him; how she loved her grandpa. When Ruthie was six years old she got pneumonia and passed away. She had been unconscious and sleeping for days. One day with the sun shining in the room, she woke and looked toward heaven, raised her hands, and cried out, "Grandpa! You came for me!" There is a picture on one of his slides in his presentation of a grandfather looking out a window on the second floor of his home at his daughter with 3 grandchildren waiting on the corner for the school bus to arrive. Joseph F. Smith said that those in the spirit world can see us more clearly than we can see them and that "their solicitude for us and their love for us, and their desire for our well-being must be greater than that which we feel for ourselves. He gave each participant who attended Binding Hearts a copy. It started snowing after lunch and about 3 inches and is accumulating. I walked back to the conference parking and came pay to the Salt Palace Conference Center and picked Debbie up. It took us almost an hour to get back to Lehi. We stopped at Macey's, grocery store, and picked up some chicken noodle soup and soda crackers, and some fruit. We got home had dinner and started our fast. We listened on the Radio to BYU and Texas Christian University (TCU) basketball game. BUY was down by 17 points at half-time. BYU came back and the final score BYU 87 and TCU 75. Debbie and I had prayer before going to bed at about 10 PM.
