Note: "In the name of Jesus" signifies that when Christians pray using these words, they are essentially accessing God the Father through Jesus, granting them a kind of "royal access" to present their prayers with authority and confidence, as Jesus is considered the mediator between God and humanity, giving believers a special standing to approach the throne of God. Paul Miller, The Praying Life, Christ is our joy, In the name of Jesus is our joy found.
Often, unless circumstances demand it—such as an illness or saying grace before a meal—most people do not pray. This kind of prayerlessness can leave us with a distressed spirit and practical unbelief characterized by fear, anxiety, joylessness, and spiritual depression.
Praying helps us have a life connected to God. In the scriptures Jesus describes the intimacy that He speaks with us, He talks about joining us for dinner (Revelation 3:20). Prayer is simply making conversation with God.
Note: Asking in Jesus' name is not another thing I have to get right so my prayers are perfect. It is one more gift of God because my prayers are so imperfect. "Imagine your prayer is a poorly dressed beggar reeking of alcohol and body odor stumbling toward the palace of the Great King. You have become your prayer. You shuffle toward the barred gate. The guard stiffens; your smell has preceded you. You stammer out a message for the King. I want to see the King. Your words are barely intelligible, but you whisper on the final word, "Jesus". "Jesus, I come in the name of Jesus." At that name of Jesus, as by magic, the palace comes alive, the guard snaps to attention, bowing low before you, lights come on, the doors fly open, and you are ushered into the palace and down a long hallway into the throne room of the Great King who come running to you and wraps you in His arms. "In the name of Jesus" gives my prayers royal access. They get through, Jesus isn't just the Savior of my soul, He is also the savior of my prayers. My prayers come before the throne of God as the prayers of Jesus. Asking in Jesus' name is not just another thing I have to get right so my prayers are perfect but it is one more gift of God because my prayers are so imperfect. Jesus's seal not only makes sure my package gets through, it also transforms the package. Paul wrote in Romans 8:26 (Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.)
Debbie and I had prayer together. The children got up and Debbie cooked breakfast for everyone. When Ryan and Stephanie got back from jogging we ate breakfast. I studied scriptures and watched the Miami and Louisiana football game with Ryan and the boys, Carter, Mckay, and Drew. When they went home I watched Alabama #5 get beat by Tennessee and afterwards Georgia #5 beat Texas #1, 30 to 15. Debbie went to Gigi and Costco's shopping and stopped to get a pizza at Pizza John's but they lost her order. She waited an hour and a half and gave up. She brought the food home and baked a pizza. Tylie came over with a dress she needed Debbie to hem it for her. Later Debbie and I had prayer and went to bed.
