Prioritized Daily Task

James Reynolds's 10th Birthday

Ride with Matt up to Brett and Rae Lynn's in San Clemente

Note:  Joseph Smith taught that the everlasting covenant was entered into by the three members of the Godhead, God the Father, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.  It was renewed upon Abraham but its origin was before the fall, before the creation, before the council in Heaven and He sent angels to do the work of those covenants.  Justin Collins and Tyler Griffin, podcast Come Follow me                                                                    ".....that the Holy Ghost may have place in their hearts, according to the power thereof; and after this manner bringeth to pass the Father, the covenants which he hath made unto the children of men." Moroni 7:32

The question is whether the glass is half-full or half-empty.  The answer is neither, it is full to overflowing because the tomb is empty.  If we think of things in the correct eternal perspective, inconveniences, illnesses, or even death, Christ's resurrection will dwarf anything negative that we may experience.  This cosmic fact, Christ trumpeted over sin, He trumpeted over death, and with the proper perspective, the atonement of Christ will dwarf anything we may experience.  "And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise." Moroni 7:41 Live in the hope of the presence of God's promises.  Jarom taught that people should believe in the Messiah as though he had already come. Jarom 1:11

I was up at 6:30 AM, had prayer, and called and talked to Debbie.  She was on her way back from her weight exercise class.  She called me when she got home and we had prayer together.  Michael went to work; Alex finished with her Christmas presents and brought them from her car and put them under the tree.  She had presents wrapped and packed for Fuz to take back to Utah for his friends.  Autumn is working this morning at the food shelter for the homeless or needy.  Then she has a luncheon with her book club.  Matthew called and he has two meetings today and will not be up to San Clemente for us to drive to Brett and Rae Lynn's until about 6:30 PM.  I sent James a happy birthday text through Blake, her mother.  I went for a walk along the beach and pier for an hour or so before lunch.  I saw Gracie and Autumn before leaving with Matthew to ride up to Clovis.  We left about 6:45 PM and got to Brett and Rae Lynn before midnight.  Ethan got up and opened the door.  Luke also got up and gave us a hug.  I talked to Debbie on the way up and Matthew talked to Melodie.  I had my personal prayer and slept in Owen's room.

I replied to Michael Nixon, Forester, email he sent this morning.  I copied his and my response: email Tuesday, 17th Dec.  from: Michael Nixon

to Leonard,

Got out there last week and took a look around. I have attached a map with some suggestions for timber management.

Remove the pine and thin the balance of the hardwoods in the creek bottoms. The interplanted pine is overshadowing the hardwoods and keeping them suppressed. Leave the better/bigger hardwoods to grow.

The older longleaf is at the stage where it can be thinned. The younger stand is borderline to being ready to thin. Areas with better soil have taller trees while other parts that had poor survival and more competition, the trees are not as good.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Michael,

Thanks for looking at the timber on the farm and giving me your suggestions.

Removing the pines and thinning the balance of the hardwoods in the creek bottoms, is an excellent suggestion.  The loblolly pines are volunteer pines; they were not planted among the oaks and should have been harvested already. Your idea of leaving the better/bigger hardwoods to grow is good.

Did you see any signs of pine beetles?

The corner of land on the northeast side near the four chicken houses on the map is basically wasted land. There are few, if any, longleaf pines. I hope we can better utilize this land.

I want to be prudent and wise with what we now have.  My goal is to let the oaks remain for deer and other wildlife.  As the loblolly reach saw timber size, we will harvest them and replant in longleaf.  In time I want all the land to be mostly longleaf and oaks we planted in the bottoms.

Leonard
